Memo to Bugs: Don't mess with Dirk

Do you remember Dirk taking out an insect intruder on the podium during the 2006 NBA Finals? Well, he's a refresher along with a video game courtesy of Dirk's Nike site in Germany. Click on "Play the Game" at the bottom right of the page.

I told Dirk I scored about 750 on it. His reply: "You've got no life if you're playing that." Hey, it's your game.

I just clicked on the link for Dirk's Nike site in Germany, and I got to listen to the Nike Press Conference. It was great; even though I couldn't understand all of what they were saying, it was still great. He sounds so at ease in his native language and then being presented with an MVP jersey from Germany and the ring. It was cute seeing him try to fit it on a finger.

I have such respect for him and his game. Bless his heart, he is one of the great players of this game, but because he is not a showboat like some others that I will not name, he will never get the total respect that he so richly deserves. I am so glad that he won the MVP for the NBA for last season, but because he doesnt' go out there an wow an audience with slam dunks and a bunch of hubla talk, and my team got outed in the first round of the playoffs last year, unfortunately, Dirk will probably be the butt of the conversations surrounding MVP talks this year.

When will they ever understand the concept of this game? It is a team sport; it takes a team to win and it takes a team to lose. One player can't win or lose by himself and I am glad that the teammates of the Dallas Mavericks personified that in their talks about the games and each one, especially Dirk, took their own shot of responsibility for each and every game, Dirk more so than anyone.

I feel that that series was lost on the mental game, not the physical game and it had been that way all season. Granted, it is only my opinion.
