Dirk Nowitzki is one victory away from realizing his lifelong Olympic dream, and he’s got up to two games to get it done. Germany knocked off Brazil 78-65 today behind 20 points from Nowitzki to reach the semifinals of the FIBA Qualifying Tournament.
The top three teams in Greece earn spots in next month’s Summer Games. Should the Germans upend Croatia, they’re off to Beijing. If Germany loses, Nowitzki and his countrymen need to win the third-place game.
Nowitzki isn’t the only one still living the dream. Puerto Rico also advanced to the semis by beating Slovenia 81-70 today. J.J. Barea scored eight points for Puerto Rico, which faces a sizable challenge by facing host Greece in Athens.
