Dirk carrying the German flag

I’ve heard from a very good source within the German Basketball Federation that Dirk Nowitzki is likely to be the German flag bearer for the opening ceremonies at the Olympics next month. The deal isn’t sealed, but those in the know promise to keep me posted.

In the meantime, you can possibly help flag-toting Dirk’s cause by signing this petition. It’s in German, but the important part is in English: “Click here to Sign Petition.”

You can view the signatures, so I went glancing down the list. I can’t vouch for its accuracy, but I did see these names: Jason Terry, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Josh Howard, Devin Harris and Avery Johnson among the 2,000-plus. If any or all of these are legit, nice going guys.
