Year abroad serves Reyshawn Terry well

The opportunity is sitting out there for him to grab. Reyshawn Terry knows this summer and fall are crucial to sustaining his NBA dream.

“If anything, I just want to be consistent,” Terry said recently from the Mavericks locker room lounge. “That’s my main focus. Whatever I do from Day 1, I want to do that until the end. Whether that’s to lock a man down for 48 minutes or hit a big shot, whatever I do, I want to be consistent.

“That’s very important to me. I’ve been fighting that my whole career. I definitely feel this is a turning point for me in my career. Starting with summer league, this will determine what happens this year for me. Whatever I do, I just want to be consistent.”

The strapping 6-foot-8 small forward is looking to officially enter his rookie season, even though he’s got a year as a pro under his belt. A season spent overseas in one of Europe’s premier leagues served the 2007 second-round pick well.

The Mavs front office and Terry’s agent worked together to place the North Carolina product with Aris BC in Greek A1 League. The traditional power is based in Thessaloniki, the second-largest city in Greece and the capital of Macedonia.

“It was difficult for me going to another part of the world that I’ve never been to by myself,” Terry said. “It was a maturing time for me, but most of all, the whole time over there was a great experience. It opened my eyes to another aspect of basketball. It was my first year as a professional. A learned a lot of things from the mental aspect of it.”

I'm a big basketball fan, especially the NBA. But what I'm about to comment has got nothing to do with basketball. I'm from Republic of Macedonia and I would like to point out to Mr. Art Garcia that Thessaloníki is not the capital of Macedonia. The capital of The Republic of Macedonia is Skopje. I think that he should know that, especially after your country the USA has recognized us under our true name Republic of Macedonia.

I will be watching Reyshawn Terry closely during Summer League. I think he can replace FA Devean George's roster spot at SF. It was very good to read the amount of playing time Terry recieved across seas, so he'll have a better understanding of what he needs to do to be successful in the League. After scouting our team as a whole I felt we needed more young, strong, athletic, players who display confidence in there games and don't back down from opponents, basically guys to complement Bass's attitude off the bench. Terry (6-7, 240) is that type of guy. Our second unit will make or break our season next year, and Terry's bid to be one of those guys starts in Summer League. Good Luck Terry and Seibutis! I am hoping the same thing, they need to give chance to these young players, you never know by the end of the season they might get mature enough to take us deeep into the playoffs!

Goran, you may call yourselves "Democracy of Outer Space" if you wish, but Thessaloniki will still be the capital of Makedonia (this is how it is really pronounced).

About Terry now. At Aris he showed great physicall strenghts, but as a player he was very inconsistent. I expected much more from him...
