Bulls land top pick

The Chicago Bulls bucked the odds tonight by winning the NBA Draft Lottery. The Bulls, a playoff team just last season, had just a 1.7 percent chance of picking first. The 2008 NBA Draft will be held in New York City from Madison Square Garden on June 26.

Miami had the best chance (25 percent) after finishing the season a league-worst 15-67. The 2006 champs wound up with the second pick, which may not be a bad consolation. The early thinking is that star freshmen Michael Beasley (Kansas State) and Derrick Rose (Memphis) will be the top two selections.

The Mavs would have picked 21st, but that selection belongs to New Jersey as part of the Jason Kidd trade. The Mavs do have their second round pick at No. 51. The rest of the draft order is at NBA.com.

The results of the lottery:
1. Chicago
2. Miami
3. Minnesota
4. Seattle
5. Memphis
6. New York
7. LA Clippers
8. Milwaukee
9. Charlotte
10. New Jersey
11. Indiana
12. Sacramento
13. Portland
14. Golden State
